Ask The Pro is on now on Twitter! With PGA Professional and @tourstriker inventor Martin Chuck. Thanks for joining us Martin! Welcome.
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
Glad to be here! Bring on the Q’s:)

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
We are very excited to have you here answering questions tonight….
Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker How did you come up with the idea for the Tour Striker? How long it take to market?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
On the range with a student. I put a Sharpie mark on the sweetspot and hit shots to smear it. Didn’t need the bottom grooves!
Came up with the idea in Aug ’06. I started selling product in Dec ’08. Infomercial May ’10. Moved pretty fast.
Big break came from talking to Tom Wishon. He put me in touch with a designer who was connected over seas.
Moe Norman ground off the first groove on his irons, so I knew that one wasn’t a big deal:)

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker What is new with the Tour Striker for 2012?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
I have a Driver, Wrist Trainer, “Smart Bag” which is a combo impact bag/plane board. This PGA Show. pic.twitter.com/88ncEBI4
I’m pumped about the near products. I think the wrist trainer, “The Educator” will help a lot of people.
The “Smart Bag” is for nerds like me who need all the gear. It has a lot of options when training. Plane, Impact, Path
The Smart Bag will be available after the PGA Show

@tourstriker Tell us about Project Joey. What is your goal for Joey?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
It’s a golf from GolfWrx. I’ve never even met the guy or talked to him. I just figured I’d target one guy and try and help…
…him with his action. If it helps others, that’s a bonus. He’s doing pretty well. He’s got a couple of issues. But fixable.
…Project Joey: Goal to get him enjoying the game and striking the ball more solidly. Hit more pins:)
Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
Project Joey for those of you who don’t know is a collection of Martin’s You Tube Videos.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker Tell us about your partnership with Jeff Ritter and how will your golf instruction differ from other methods?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
@new.mikefaygolf @JeffRitterGolf and I were buds since college (NMSU). We are ball flight based coaches who believe in training the….
….golfer to become a better athlete and more educated about the game. Take away the myths of playing the game.
We are a holistic team and believe the improvement can come not just from fixing a face/path, but body and mind too.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker How often do you get a chance to play golf? Who is your favorite golfer to watch on TV?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
I love to play. Two wee ones limit play these days. Once a week, maybe? I love to watch Tiger play great or awful:)
My all time favorites: Seve, Arnie, Jack, Phil, Tiger, Annika…Of course Hogan and my mentor George Knudson

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker OK it’s time for some golf instruction. Are you ready?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
Bring it!

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker What drill would you give a 20 handicapper that has a problem hitting the ball off heal of the club?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
He needs balance (body) and sweet spot awareness (feel). I’d have him hit some shots off a pool noodle and then do the
…three ball drill. That’s where you hit three balls from the same ball position, just closer or farther away from you….
…the 20 hdcp needs to know how and where to direct the load of the club to the ball. Moving the ball closer or farther works

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker How do you cure the flips while chipping? Every time I try to get my hands ahead of the ball, I hit it fat. Help!
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
Shallow AoA for one. Don’t “hit down” on chips. Shallow strikes with a left exit. Baby cut shots. No diggers
Chipping: use the bounce of the club. Not the leading edge. Too much Chili served with the leading edge:)!

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker How do you get backspin with your wedges?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
Hit the ball before you hit the ground. You can’t have grass between the grooves and the ball. The ball will spin.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker how do you stop casting with the driver?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
Casters usually have bad grips (too weak) and need to throw the club to help square the face. Check your grip!

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker What is the best way to stop hooking the ball with your irons?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
🙂 Open the face! The face is closed for the path. Usually “running out of right arm” early and face hooks result….
…there are a couple of ways to help this; punch shots to BOTH arms straight, Obviously grip, swing a little more left.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker What is your favorite drill to stop swaying?
Martin Chuck @tourstriker
…if they have a mobility issue, I’ll address that, but a lot of people don’t know they move around that much. Visual anchors
The “perspective” drill. Anchor what they see by putting an object near the ball and make them aware of the changing perspective

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker What is the best way to stop coming over the top?
…address the “Why” someone is doing it. Usually the face is open and they want to avoid the right shot.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker My friend says I hit the ball way too hard. How can I get the power into the ball without swinging hard?
Grip pressure; strong fingers and supple wrists. Can you really hit the ball too hard? No. Out of sequence? Yes.

Mike Fay, PGA @new.mikefaygolf
@tourstriker Who is your favorite golf instructor to watch? What can we learn from him?
Favorite to watch. My mentors: Knudson, LaBauve, Evershed, Manzella. Great guys (GK, RIP). Personal style and simple message.
Also need to throw out thanks to Ben Doyle and Bobby Clampett, too.

That was a lot of fun. I love this concept Mike. Talk about “thinking outside the box”. You always seem to get the big names that people want to hear from too. Good work, as always!
